The results are in, and I join the ranks of those who didn't one-shot the FSOT. Of course, I don't have my actual results, because they just send out form letters. Even though they have my score right in front of them so they can determine which form letter to use, they can't just send that on to me. I have to make a special request to get the breakdown of my score, which supposedly will take another 4-6 weeks to process (even though they already have it right there!). I am curious, though, to know how close (or how far) I was.
In other news, we got some bicycles finally. So, once the winter winds die down, we'll be getting out and about more. Amazing how much wheels help with that. I'm surprised some animal hasn't evolved with wheels yet.
Trying to decide on the destination for our next intra-China trip. Currently narrowed down to Sichuan province or Yunnan province. Would welcome any recommendations between the two, to make it easier to choose.
Speaking of China, why is the adjectival form "Chinese?" The name ends with an "A," just like America, Canada, Russia, Venezuela, and plenty of other countries whose adjectives end with "-an" or "-ian." I can see why we wouldn't want it to be "Chinian" (evokes images of a certain alien race from MIB 2), but I don't see anything wrong with "Chinan." It would fit better with the rule that seems to apply to every other A-ending country name. Or should I start using words like "Indonesese?"

I think the n preceding the a keeps it from just ending in an n. The -nan is harder to say and you lose the second one more than you would with the -can or -dan or the like.
That's disappointing news, but it sounds like a very common occurrence for first timers. Like you, it would irritate me to have no idea how close I came.
