Is it just me, or was 2006 the fastest year ever?
It seems like it just flew by. Not sure if that means it was exceedingly uneventful or I got caught in a temporal accelerator.
So anyway, DiploWhat and I went to the new apartment to pick up the keys (woo hoo!). On the way there, we (mostly I, since I was driving) experienced a blogworthy phenomenon:
Traffic was not very heavy along a particular stretch of road, yet in two separate places we had to slow down to 20-30 MPH. The reasons? First: a van stopped on the side of the road. No people, just a van. Second: people doing something with a bike rack mounted on the back of an SUV stopped on the side of the road. Neither instance had the vehicles or people near enough the traffic lanes to merit a slowdown.
I'm pretty sure I saw all that there was to see at both of these locations, and described them in their entirety above. Nothing extraordinary. Just stopped vehicles, a few people, and a bike rack.
Yet everyone had to slow down by 40 MPH or so just to take it in. A fucking bike rack. It's like these people had never seen such a marvel of technology. I hate the rubberneckers out here. They're the worst I've ever encountered.
I wish my co-workers studied how to stock merchandise properly as much as these people studied the non-events on the side of the road.
But yes, we're excited to move into the new place. We snapped some photos while there, a few of which I'll try to post soon.
Happy New Year, and I hope you all manage to stick to any resolutions you may have made. (I hope I can stick to mine!)

Yay for new place with non-leeking roof! Hope the move is/was easy. Happy New Year!
Leaky roof sucks, though it would suck far worse if you owned the place. Still, I hope you don't have to make another home-hop until you jump the pond.
I'd like to see pictures.
Sounds like a lot of Minnesotans have relocated to the DC area based on your description of the drivers. Just honk it up!
SVB wrote the above. And, to clarify, he wants pictures of the new place. Not just any pictures.
