Yep. My all-time favorite infinite combo card is back:
Enduring Renewal
Some of you may recall my most ingenious (why does that word look like it means the opposite of "genius?") Magic: The Gathering deck, dubbed "Clamp" by a certain roommate known for devious decks. Well, Wizards of the Coast's newest Magic set, Time Spiral, includes some "Timeshifted" (reprinted) cards from all different sets in Magic's past. These cards are supposedly strong, classic cards that they wanted to put back into the Standard tournament format. Enduring Renewal was one that made the cut.
New Magic sets don't normally get me this excited, since I only maintain two Vintage-format decks (Clamp being one of them) just in case. But this particular set's regular (non-"Timeshifted") cards also struck a chord with me -- they present subtle twists that old school Magic players should appreciate: cards designed by melding two old cards into a new one, characters or places referenced in the "flavor" text of old cards (Kher Keep, anyone?), or cards that could have been in those old sets right next to the all-too-familiar ones.
Further, the previous set, Coldsnap, was apparently originally intended to follow the Ice Age set but never made it through to production for some reason. Looking through these "almost were" cards made me think back to the glory days of emperor in Pine Hall or the second floor of the Social Science building.
Once they get all those old cards loaded up for Magic: The Gathering Online, I'll whup all y'all with Clamp one more time!
Next time: my senility.

Ah the "Clamp".
The deck that meant if you didn't beat it in ten minutes that you would lose in two hours.:)
Damn straight. It's all about an agonizing defeat. I blame Shane.
Blame nothing. Agonizing defeats were far, far more enjoyable than ten minute blowouts. Clamp was frustrating only because out of an 80 card deck, the same damn 8 card combo came out every time. In five minutes.
I was just honored to compete...and make the Pine Hall granolas resent me for laughing at "Legends of the Fall."
What the hell are you doing in Washington, anyway? You can play with 12 year olds there, or thirty year olds here. You think the 12 year old will know what the hell you mean when you start talking about the clamp?
word'em.
Patience Bohnen
Just a shame I couldn't effectively work Shahrazad into that deck (which, incidentally, only had 4 cards in the core combo, with several "bonus" combos).
I'm comment number 5! And the word verification was "kiskob"!
Forest is a kiskob!
