Uge Your Imanijation

Week three, Chinese.

So far, so good. Still staying ahead of the curve in my particular 4-person class.

We've also had several large group (everyone getting 44 weeks) sessions on learning/recognizing written characters. The teacher for that class is amusing and keeps us entertained, but when she says "uge your imanijation" when explaining the origins of various characters, I usually find that even my imagination can't find a connection. The reading is going to be rough.

It doesn't help (me, anyway) that in the small group classes we're learning sounds of words and their meanings, but not really spending any time on the characters -- and in the large groups we're focusing on the images of characters and their meanings, but not what they sound like. So, it seems to be an either/or situation for visual/aural learning. Not sure why they're doing that, but it seems to me that it would be best to wrap it up into one "total package."

In other news, I'm still working ~30 hours at the store, so my days feel quite full.

If you need to contact me, make an appointment -- otherwise, I'll be napping.

Oh dear lord how I HATE the large group classes. Even the simple character classes are starting to become too detailed for large group. Stupid wanna-be diplomats taking up our teachers' time with their phone-in-Chinese tests so they can raise their score on the hire list. Grrr.

But the characters still look pretty...right?

Wow, and it's not like your imagination is lacking, either.

Naps are good.
