"An Absolute Must" [sic]

I saw a TV ad/trailer for the new Superman movie (*yawn* -- more on this in a moment), in which some critic or reviewer (didn't manage to see exactly who before it disappeared) said "an absolute must." Yes, the period was there. "An absolute must" ended the sentence.

Now, I took this to mean that they (the promoters of the movie) are trying to convey to me that this movie is the equivalent of the pinnacle of: a) the unfermented or fermenting juice expressed from fruit, or b) staleness or mustiness. Certainly, they couldn't have arrived at the conclusion that the auxiliary verb "must" could stand alone like that. They must have known better.

Moving on: why another Superman movie? Now that Hollywood is finally making more comic book hero movies, why another Superman movie (or Batman, for that matter)? Make something that hasn't already been done several times! Besides, who can top Christopher Reeves?

Sure, I know there are always new villains for these super heroes to face, but this new Superman movie doesn't even have a new villain -- it's the same boring Lex Luthor. Besides, Gene Hackman makes a way better Lex Luthor than Kevin Spacey does.

It's good to see others making their way to film, such as Ghost Rider, but come on -- Nicholas Cage?!?

"So," you say, "You have so much criticism, Paul -- what would you want to see?" Well, I'll tell you!

First, I'd say that the film version of Frank Miller's Sin City was pretty frickin' cool.

Characters and/or comic book titles I'd like to see in film format: Dungeons & Dragons (based on the classic cartoon series), The Flash, Green Lantern, Lenore (not likely but I can dream), Rai, The Red Star, WildCATS, Witchblade.

And, I hear that there's a Futurama movie on the way (yay!) -- but that it's going straight to DVD (boo!).

WitchBlade already has had a movie. It's what the tv series was based off.
I got a new computer and we have wireless access in our house now so I might keep up to date on your blog again.

Bah! You and your smarty computer, knowing all about already-made movies!
How come I never heard of the movie? Straight to Laserdisc?

I don't know when it was made I just ran across it on whatever cable chanel was starting up the series. It should have gone straight to the scrap heap but I think it was after laserdisc already died.
