My wife has been "nagging" me to post another blog entry. Well, here it is. For once, I can't really think of anything to write about. So, I'll just write about what's on my mind at the moment:
Tahra's "Career Destruction Officer" has been silent for a long time -- we've heard nothing, meaning there's no progress on locking in the job in DC that Tahra was "promised." Another opportunity came along -- this time for a position in Mongolia -- and Tahra brought it to the CDO's attention via e-mail. Still nothing. So we're waiting for the bomb to drop -- something to the effect of "Well, the DC job can't be reclassified so we can't assign you to it. Now you get to choose from this list of currently available assignments: Baghdad (Consular, unaccompanied), Baghdad (Office Management Specialist, unaccompanied), Baghdad (Janitor, unaccompanied), or Lagos (carjack/murder victim). Or of course you can just die a slow death (career and otherwise) doing another visa mill and collecting all manner of intestinal problems in Mumbai, which technically is still your official assignment."
If something like that happens, someone is going to get a scathing letter to end all scathing letters.
But for now, I have to think about my farewell speech to the Public Affairs staff -- I'm sure they'll clamor for one. I'm not one for public speaking, but I'd like to say some nice things to/for/about the people I've really come to enjoy working with here (the people whom I didn't enjoy working with can just bask in the reflected glory and think they're among the favored). Time to go "borrow" from writers more eloquent than me (they do exist!).

To whoever posted that mini ad (which I have deleted) as a comment to this blog entry, please don't do it again.
Boy, that is sucky. I thought the D.C. thing was set. The CDO not communicating at all sounds bad (and doing a really bad job). I hope all is resolved and turns out well so you (and Tahra) can can stop stressing about it.
Actually, the CDO recently came back saying that the job would be reclassified and I would be paneled in two weeks. Of course, she said that 4 months ago. In the meantime, a Economic/Commercial officer job in Mongolia has opened up. Now it's a question of go with the DC job or fight for the Mongolia position? (Of course, it's really going to end up being which one does the CDO want to bother with).
