Back to the Land of Congestion

We're back from the fresh air and open roads of New Zealand, with hundreds of pictures (and work e-mails) to sort through. It was a great vacation, and as to be expected, we didn't want it to end. I re-visited some places I'd seen in '97, and saw a whole lot more this time -- a different city almost every night! Helicopter flights, whale and penguin watching, and lots of beautiful scenery.

Some quirky highlights:
The "Minus 5° Bar" in Auckland -- frozen bar that serves drinks in ice glasses
The "Opossum World" store in Napier -- pelts, clothing items, and extermination methods
The speeding ticket -- yes, I drive faster than I should, except on curvy mountain roads
The flat on Tinakori road where Shane lived having been remodeled into an architectural firm's office
The stupid no-photograph policy at the blue penguin colony
The "impossible" mini golf course where nearly every hole resulted in the max number of strokes
Bumping into our embassy nurse at the Auckland airport -- my knack for "small world" encounters continues

Anyway, photos will be posted online somewhere for your perusal once we sort through them and find a place to post them! (We've also been meaning to put up pictures for some of our other travels.)

Wow! A foreign speeding ticket. Do you get to keep a copy? Might be a nice reminder of New Zealand.
