Like sands through the hourglass
Our beloved friends Karen & Forest have come and gone. It was great to see them after nearly a year and a half. Their visit was fun, much too short, and makes me miss (even moreso) being able to spontaneously get together for games or whatnot. I'm getting tired of being with people I -have- to be with because they're the ones who are around, rather than being with people I -want- to be with because I can choose who's around.
Settling for the lesser option is not something I do well. Yet there's a high likelihood that I'll have to do just that again when Tahra gets her next assignment, probably somewhere in Africa.
So, while Karen & Forest were here, we went to this weapon gallery/store in Insa-dong that Tahra and I like. There's a pretty cool lightsaber replica, complete with sounds connected to a motion sensor and a light-up blade that "ignites" from base to tip and "retracts" back down. But there are also plenty of genuine Korean swords that, though lacking lights & sounds, hold more artistic value and would last far longer. They also cost a lot more. Yet again, a dilemma. The lightsaber for its "cool" factor (and lower price), or the genuine Korean sword for its artistic/historical factor?

Hey that's me! I'm famous!
Now on to the point, what sword to buy?
I think for you the Lightsaber fits better plus it's cheaper (always a bonus),but then there are other things to consider. What about zombie attacks? What about survival after a nuclear apocalypse? How will your fancy lightsaber help you then? Of course as I recall you and Tahra both already have metal swords (though your's might be a bit slow for swinging against nuclear mutants)so I firmly come down on the side of Lightsaber with a nice rack for it's display. (at least for the moment that's my opinion)
The lightsaber, is of course, TOTALLY COOL! However, I think you should have an authentic korean sword to keep as a suvenier from your stay. You could make that a theme during yours and Tahra's travels... swords from around the world! And when you get back we can all come see your artistic exhibit.

I agree, the visit was much too short. It was really wonderful to see you again.
Sword dilemma...tough one. I lean toward the lightsaber, but I suspect that's just because any time I see anything Star Wars related it reminds me of you. Either way you get a cool toy!

Real sword is my vote if the decision hasn't been made. You could probably find a light saber similar to the one in Korea outside of Korea. It might be a lot more expensive to buy a Korean sword outside of Korea.
