Kasha - Farewell

I never really thought I'd be writing something like this, since my relationship with Kasha seemed to be little more than cohabitation. But now that she has passed, I've realized there was more to our relationship than it seemed.

Kasha was with D-What and me since the beginning, around for every event -- big or small. She was there in Morris when we met... and got engaged. She shared our first apartment out of college, in New Hope. She helped us celebrate our wedding (by destroying the cake top we had saved in a box she just had to jump into) -- and the 13 anniversaries that have followed. She moved with us to Bloomington, and then to Arlington, VA when D-What joined the State Department. She traveled with us around the world, to live in Seoul for two years. She came back to live in Maryland and Arlington, never complaining about the frequent moves. And finally, she came with us to Beijing -- even gracefully welcoming two new additions to the family earlier this year. She was a constant companion through the years while we've had to leave so many others behind.

Of course she and I had our differences over the years (mostly her trying to walk on my pillow or whatever I was reading or working on) but I guess there was an underlying connection that is only now apparent. I've never known life with D-What without Kasha. It already feels strange.

Kasha, wherever you are now, I hope there are plenty of roses for you to chomp and as much catnip as you'd ever want to roll in.
