I Need a Vacation

We're back in Beijing, after an excellent home leave.  It's weird when a vacation takes you back to the place you really feel is home.  A super-huge "thank you" to everyone who made our limited time home so great.

We left the U.S.A. feeling revitalized and eager to start the next two years with a clean slate, a fresh outlook, and a new attitude.

But it took barely a day for this place to start dragging us down.

Already we're dealing with more of the same crapola that made our first two years here so grating.  In addition to the low standards of quality (seen most recently in the paintwork in our new place) around here, it's also: a property management company wasting entire days not working on our new place and then telling us it won't be ready to move into on time; workers not comprehending how to install what I will call a "double lattice" wine rack so that the lattices line up properly for the bottles to lay properly (I'm going back tomorrow to explain it a second time); and to top it all off, the AFN satellite dish we bought from the previous resident was stolen while we were stateside.  (I get to test out a substitute dish found by the property management tomorrow, having never set up something like this and not knowing if the dish they found will even work with the decoder.)

Ugh.

Will try to get photos of our new place up soon (once I've had a chance to snap a few).  Also will try to get our home leave photos posted.  Keep checking www.flickr.com/photos/wogworld for updates.

It was awesome to have you here. I hope things improve once you're actually in the new place!
